About Discovery Nursery
Discovery Nursery, on Heavitree Road, was opened in 2013 by our nursery group. It has 4 main rooms for children set over 2 floors, a dining room and 3 gardens including a forest school area. The nursery is open from 7:30am – 6pm Monday to Friday, and welcomes children aged between 3 months – 5 years.

We have a dedicated staff team here at Discovery. Providing the children of Exeter the best possible start in life is very important to us.
The manager of the nursery, Maddie Smale or her deputy, Angela Kerswell will be more than happy to show you around and tell you all about the quality education and care they provide.
Forest School
Discovery Nursery fully embraces outdoor education and encourage children to be creative and critical thinkers. We are lucky to have a forest school area in which the children can get creative whilst making mud pies , learn new things, take appropriate risks and explore nature and the world around them.
Maddie Smale

Maddie Smale has worked in our settings since 2001. She has been the manager of Discovery since it opened in 2013 and has previously managed our Tic Tocs Nursery.
Maddie is passionate about encouraging children to be unique, to be creative and to use their imaginations.
Maddie has two step children who both attended our nurseries.
Angela Kerswell
Discovery Deputy Manager
L4 Early Years Qualification
Angela Kerswell joined the company in 2007 and has worked at Discovery since it opened, becoming the deputy manager in 2018.
Angela supports Maddie and the Discovery team to provide high quality child care and education.
Angela has two daughters of her own, both of whom attended Tic Tocs. Her eldest daughter is currently doing an apprenticeship with Devon Nurseries.
Our Teams
The 4 rooms at Discovery are all led by experienced staff and we ensure that each team has at least the required amount of qualified staff expected by Ofsted.
We also employ a nursery cook who provides balanced and nutritious daily meals all cooked from fresh produce.
We support our staff in their training and development to enable them to provide quality education and care at Discovery Nursery.
