Spanish Classes with Kidslingo
The Preschoolers at ABC had a very special visit from Carmen from Kidslingo to teach them some new Spanish words & phrases.
The children were welcomed by Carmen as she passed around a ball, teaching them all how to say “My name is” in Spanish.
She then read them one of their favourite stories, The Hungry Caterpillar, highlighting important words and teaching the children what they were in Spanish. They learnt that Caterpillar is “Oruga” and Butterfly is “Mariposa!”
The children took turns feeding the caterpillar his almighty portion (as we all know from the story!) and listening to Carmen teach them how to say them in Spanish. For example, “Naraja” for Orange or “Fresa” for Strawberry.
The children also took part in a little sing & dance to some classic songs in Spanish. They were all super interested in the activity and listened to the new songs with pure curiosity keeping an ear out for the new words.
By the end of the session, the children had the confidence to even do some speaking and practising words such as “Gracias” for Thank you and “Hola” for Hello when Carmen congratulated them all individually with a sticker for their attention.
The importance of Learning a new Language
The early years are the perfect time for a child to be exposed to a new language as they are more receptive to learning. Their brains are like sponges with most things from learning maths to walking, so why would learning words for a new language be any different?
Even if children cannot fluently speak in a different language due to limited exposure, learning important words & phrases helps them connect to different people and cultures around the world.
In addition to this, learning a new language can also help children boost their ability to problem solve and improve memory & concentration.
Even just a few phrases to help them be able to have a conversation is so important for later life. Just like they would learn Hello, teach them Bonjour, or Ciao and greetings to get by in any part of the world.
