5 Easter Craft Ideas for Kids

Easter is a wonderful time to get creative with your little ones. Whether at a day nursery in Exeter or at home, many different Easter crafts provide a wonderful space for kids to have fun while engaging their developing senses and encouraging curiosity.

Whether it’s a fun activity to keep little minds occupied during the holidays or creating keepsakes you can share with family and friends, here are some of our favourite Easter-themed crafts for kids.

Easter Egg Potato Prints

This quick and easy activity is a lot of fun for both children and adults!

All you need to do is cut a few potatoes in half and carve different easter-themed shapes (stripes, zig-zags, dots etc.) into the halves so they can be used as paint stamps. Then, cover a table with paper, set up some paints and let them explore making prints.

Of course, you’ll need to cut the potatoes yourself and make sure you have child-safe paints. Once everything is set up, though, this is a great activity that allows little ones to get messy. The potatoes can be washed and reused to create different colours.

Easter Egg Designing

Another fantastic way to get creative over Easter is by letting little ones design their own eggs.

Simply buy some coloured cards and cut them into egg shapes. Then, set out a whole host of different decorations that your kids can play with and help them decorate their own egg.

You could include paints, glitters, other pieces of paper and cards (such as thin green strips that imitate grass) and anything else you can think of. Beyond designing the eggs, this is a fun way to explore sensory play with your children, which is a great way to support their early development.

Paper Plate Bunny Masks

This is another variation of the idea above. Using the back of a paper plate as a base, you can create your very own bunny faces!

Cut out holes for the eyes before adding glue, then let your little one cover the plate in white items such as cotton buds and tissue paper to create a fluffy bunny face.

Finish off the face with a pink nose and some pink ears (you could use cardboard). Then, your little one can pretend to be a bunny for Easter!

Footprint Bunnies

A really enjoyable and easy Easter craft is footprint bunnies. Little ones love stomping around, and this can let them move as much as they want (although you might need to prepare for any potential mess!)

Simply dip your little one’s foot in child-safe, non-toxic paint and let them stamp onto a piece of paper or card, creating a footprint. Even if your little one jumps about, there will hopefully be one neat, clean footprint that you can use.

All you have to do after that is put two ears protruding from the heel (you could use your little one’s fingers to do this) and ta-da, you have a cute, foot-shaped bunny!

This easter craft is a lot of fun for little ones but can also serve as a wonderful gift, such as on the front of an Easter card sent to family and friends.

Handy Easter Cards

This is another great way of turning fun family crafts into gifts or keepsakes.

Ask your little one to draw an outline of their hand on a piece of card (or draw around their hand if they’re not ready yet). Then, cut out the card around that outline. You may need to fold the card backwards to cut out two identical shapes depending on the thickness of the card.

Once the hand is cut out, ask your little one to decorate it and make it into a cute animal. They might need some guidance at the beginning – for example, if it’s a bunny, you can draw the bunny ears on two of their fingers. This craft should give you some wonderfully cute paper animals that make great Easter decorations or cards to send to friends.

We hope these ideas inspire you to have a wonderful, crafty time with your little ones over the Easter holidays! For more ideas over the coming months, check out our blog on great summer activities for early years children.
