Devon Nurseries Rated “Good” in Latest Ofsted Reports

At Devon Nurseries, we’re passionate about providing the highest-quality early education and childcare across all our centres, with a holistic approach focused on developing well-rounded children.

We’re passionate about doing the very best for children, parents, and everyone else connected with our day nurseries in Exeter. That’s why we’re delighted to reveal positive news from our latest round of Ofsted inspection reports.

Over the last few months, Ofsted inspections have taken place at many of our nurseries, in some cases for the first time since they joined the Devon Nurseries family.

In every case (at the time of writing), Ofsted has regarded our overall effectiveness as “good”, with praise for the quality of education, development, behaviour and leadership shown at our nurseries.

Read below for more details on the nurseries inspected and for access to their full reports. Inspections at other nurseries, such as Acorns, are expected to be released soon.

ABC Day Nursery

Ofsted said in their report that “staff naturally create a warm, friendly and home-from-home environment for children and their families” at ABC Nursery.

At all of our nurseries, we ensure teams are led by experienced staff and that we have the number of qualified staff expected not only by Ofsted but also by parents. Ofsted’s report states that “older children confidently leave their parents, rush in and say ‘hello’ to staff when they arrive. This shows that children are happy, relaxed and feel safe and secure.”

ABC Nursery was also praised for its education and development, with Ofsted saying that our team “strive to provide an ambitious curriculum that gives high-quality care and education to all children.”

Ofsted also gave particular praise to ABC’s reading and lending library that allows children to continue to develop at home, thanks to which “children are developing a love of books and stories.”

Discovery Nursery

Ofsted once again praised our excellent staff in their assessment of Discovery Nursery. The report says that “staff welcome children and families as they arrive at the nursery” and that “Staff communicate and share children’s progress and all staff know children well.”

Ofsted’s report had particular praise for Discovery Nursery’s curriculum and development opportunities for children. “The children enjoy a curriculum that focuses on building key skills for their next stages, including starting school” read the report.

Ofsted also said that “staff promote children’s physical development,” with coordination and muscle development a key part of their learning.

At all of our nurseries, we emphasise holistic development, helping children learn all the personal, physical and emotional skills they’ll need to be prepared for future education and life.

We’re delighted that Ofsted praised the behaviour of our children, saying that “children learn to let their friends know that they have made them sad and why. They know to say sorry if they have upset others and think of ways that they can play nicely together so everyone is happy.”

Tic Tocs Day Nursery

Tic Tocs, located in the heart of Exeter, has a long tradition of welcoming children from all across the world. This provides great opportunities for children to learn about respect across cultures, something noted in the Ofsted inspection.

“Staff encourage children to be kind and celebrate their similarities and differences,” says the Ofsted report. “They guide children in exploring a wide range of cultural and religious celebrations, including Thanksgiving.”

There was also praise from Ofsted for Tic Tocs’ curriculum, explaining that “children are well-prepared for their next stage of learning.”

With “a strong focus on developing children’s communication skills” alongside physical development, hand-eye coordination and “developing independence and self-care skills in children of all ages,” our staff help ensure all our children are prepared for wherever their life takes them.
